ABOUT our Hālau

Hālau Lei Aloha is a training school and community, committed to Hawaiian Traditional Teachings and Practices.

The word Hālau means “Many Breaths,” reminding us that every person who enters brings their own life force, their own story, and their own gift.

Founded by Louise Kleu, our Hālau is dedicated to the art and spirit of Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Nui Bodywork, rooted in the wisdom of Aloha and guided by the spirit of our ancestors that sustain true healing.

We collaborate with Hālau Pō Me Nani, and other Kumu, Teachers, to bring Traditional Teachings to support the Bodywork, ensuring Culturally-Informed teaching.

We are guided by Akua/Higher Power and our Aumakua/Ancestors to develop the qualities essential to this path: Respect, Compassion, Empathy, Patience, Listening, Honesty, and the Courage to Speak Truth.

Our training is a safe and supported space to learn new ways of Being, Thinking, and Living, with skills and plenty Aloha.

We follow a Code of Ethics/Alignment, holding space with integrity and deep care. Here, you will not only learn skills—you will learn to breathe with intention, to listen with your heart, and to serve with humility.

This is a journey of Connection, Healing, and Aloha.

About Louise

I am honoured and humbled to share my Aloha for Traditional Hawaiian Cultural Practices through my work as a Lomi Lomi Nui Practitioner and Teacher.

My initiation into this work began in 2000 in South Africa, and has continued to inspire me ever since, becoming the cornerstone of my way of living. It has helped me heal past traumas, lead with my heart, be present with all that is, and connect with my own land & ancestors.

My Kumus have been inspirational in my Life, sharing their wisdom of these beautiful Traditional Teachings and Way of Living.

The people that I have met over the years on trainings all over the world, as well as my Clients and Students over the past 26 years, have enriched my Life in ways beyond measure – you have become my community and my ʻOhana.

I am grateful to continue to live with these Teachings as a foundation for Life, as they continue to show me how to live a life that is more in alignment with Truth, Loving, Kind, Humble and full of the Adventures of deeper learning and experiences.

Aloha Pono!

Julia Nālani Adams

About Julia

Kumu Pa’a Julia Nālani Adams is the Hālau Kumu, Course Director, and Wise Guide of Hālau Pō Me Nani.

She is the 51st Generation carrying the Lineage Teachings of Halawa Valley, Molokai, Hawai’i, with Kumu Pa’a Nui Lawrence Kamainia Aki being the head of this branch of Lineage Teachings.

Her international Lineage-based school is dedicated to the preservation, correct transmission, and ethical application of Hawaiian Spiritual Teachings as they have been passed down through her Lineage.

Hālau Pō Me Nani is a School of Hawaiian Spiritual Studies, School of the Ancestors, with the intention of preserving the Teachings for the next Generations and the Global Community, who can benefit from them as a strong, unshakeable foundation for Life – Teachings applicable to each one of us regardless of our Cultural Backgrounds.

“These Universal Teachings show you how much “westernised” Spirituality has forgotten about the totality of life, death and everything in between. They’re about who you are, what you do and how you are moment to moment – your wholeness and fullness as a person. We are trying to preserve the Teachings through our classes and projects.” – Kumu Nālani

Kumu Nālani is a person who truly walks on the Line of Truth, embodies Aloha, and generously shares her ‘Ike as a Wise Guide and Mentor. She is a powerful Kumu, yet patient and kind as she guides you towards realising who you are, and how to live the Life we were born to live. – Louise Kleu

what we offer

Our Trainings encompass various aspects of Traditional Hawaiian Healing, which includes traditional & spiritual practices such as Protocol, Oli/Chant, Mo’olelo/Storytelling, Pule/Prayer – as well as the Bodywork of Lomi Lomi Nui – all of which are connected and not separate.

Bodywork Training includes Traditional Spiritual Teachings, as we are not a “massage school”.

Our Lomi Lomi Nui Bodywork comes from the source of Native Hawaiian, Kahu Abraham Kawaiʻi.

We are grateful to collaborate with Hālau Pō Me Nani to provide Traditional Teachings in the lineage of Kumu Paʻa Nui Lawrence Kamainia Aki.

Training is offered in different levels, some online & others are in-person residential retreats following a dedicated Training Pathway for students.

Lomi Lomi is the Hawaiian word for “massage”, though it’s deeper meaning and application has many layers and levels. The word in Hawaiian language, “Lomi”, means to “rub, press, wring out, pound”.

The double-barrel of this word implies the importance of this action and expands it into the “spiritual realm” and for people to realise the importance of this practice. Another example of this is “ho’oponopono”.

Lomi Lomi is rooted in ancient, traditional practice, a unique cultural way of thinking and seeing the world. Hawaiian consciousness and way of life takes a long time to unpack, with a deep commitment to understanding and connecting with the teachings – because of the immense amount of knowledge that is held in the stories (mo’olelo), hula, oli (chants), pule (prayers), the language (‘ōlelo) & in the land (ʻāina) & people (kānaka).

To understand the nature of Lomi Lomi, and the deeper applications of this work, we need to explore Hawaiian consciousness – the Hawaiian World View – to get to the roots & foundation of what it is, where it comes from, and what is asked of us, as we develop this practice to its full potential.

This is especially important if we are non-Hawaiians. To have respect for this sacred work, we must have a connection with the people, the Source, the land, the stories, the language, the chants, the prayers, the protocols, the way of thinking, the proverbs, the dance, the myths & legends.

It is important to understand that Lomi Lomi massage is one part of a whole interconnected system of Hawaiian Healing. It starts with Akua/Higher Being, as nothing happens without the presence of Akua/Higher Being – this is the number one Teaching.

Moʻokū ʻauʻhau of Hālau
Honouring Our Kumus

Moʻokūʻauhau = Geneology

**As with all Hawaiian words, there are many layered and deeper meanings**

I extend my continuous gratitude to my Teachers, and their Teachers, going back to the Source. It is also Protocol to name and respect each of our teachers for passing on their ‘Ike, their wisdom and living example, so that we know The Source of what we are practicing and passing on to others.

My Lomi Lomi Lineage – now also your Lineage – is of Native Hawaiian Kahu Abraham Kawaiʻi, who himself came from a Lineage of Hawaiian Healers.

My first Teacher of this Lineage is Anthea Hardwick. I began training with her in 2000 and became her apprentice in South Africa for many years, preparing food and space on trainings, and working alongside her in the Aloha Life Centre. Her blessing and support for me as a Lomi Lomi teacher continues to inspire me.

My Kumu Susan Floyd, an apprentice of Abraham Kawaiʻi, initiated me as a Kino Mana Teacher, including Lomi Lomi Nui, in 2004 on the island of Kauai, Hawaiʻi. The pillars of Kino Mana are Lomi Lomi Nui, Huna, Hula, Oli/Chant, and Self-Massage. Since then I’ve participated on a number of her trainings in Germany, and a Ho’oponopono training delivered by Kumu Hula Loea Kawaikapuokalani Hewitt in Munich.

In 2014, I returned to Hawai’i to train in a different lineage with Native Hawaiian Cultural Practitioner Kumu Jeana Iwalani Naluai of Ho’omana Spa Maui. I completed my month-long immersion with Kumu Jeana, ending with Lomi Lomi Mastership Training. I invited Kumu Jeana to Ireland in 2016 to participate in Kua Lua (Hawaiian Backwalking) training, and also completed her Lomi Lomi Ha’pai (Pregnancy Lomi Lomi) in Germany.

I honour the teachings of one of Hawaii’s longest & best-preserved lineages, that of Kumu Pa’a Nui Lawrence Kalainia Kamani Aki of Halawa Valley, Molokai. I am a learner with Kumu Pa’a Julia Nālani Adams, who has brought me the spiritual teachings of this lineage, including The Path to Pa’a and Traditional Ho’oponopono.

I would like to mention a wonderful Kumu Kekuhi Kealiʻikanakaole of Hālau ʻŌʻhia, who introduced me to Oli and Hawaiian Ecological Stewardship Training in 2020. In 2023, a small group of learners from Ireland were invited to Hawaiʻi island by Aunty Kekuhi for a unique pāmaomao huakahi/journey, immersing ourselves in Hawaiian Lifeways.

None of this is possible without the unseen teachers and guides that lead the way: our ‘Akua, na ʻAumakua, na Kupuna and all living things in this Universe, seen and unseen, known and unknown.

My deep reverence and gratitude to All. Mahalo ke ‘Akua. Mahalo.
